WANTED: Melbourne Gaol

I am still busy completing all my "unfinished" projects for the January LOAD projects at Let's Scrap.  This was another layout done at the Megacrop in 2011 that has been lying in my box for about a year. This double layout was originally designed by Ritea de Kock.  I changed it around slightly to include all my photos and made a booklet on right page to include extra pics.


These photos were taken at the Melbourne Gaol.  When the Old Melbourne Gaol as built in the mid-1800s, it dominated the Melbourne skyline as a symbol of authority. Inside the Gaol, dangerous criminals were held alongside petty offenders, the homeless and the mentally ill.  Between 1842 and its closure in 1929 the gaol was the scene of 133 hangings including Australia's most infamous citizen, the bushranger Ned Kelly.

We visited the Gaol in May 2011 and were really surprised at the feeling of "death" that surrounds the building.  The old Hangmans Noose still hangs where they used to hang the prisoners.. very eerie ... The cells were minute and the walls were cold hard stone.. Really not a place I will ever visit again.. was an experience NOT to be repeated.. they have a ghost tour here and I can really believe that there are ghosts here as I swear I could feel them watching us.
